Law School and a Good Legal Dictionary
Law school all comes down to who figures out what to do first. As you take each law course and you use your law textbooks you will quickly find that it just doesn't make much sense. If you bought a Black's law dictionary you look up definitions once or twice and then never use it again. This pattern is so common when we talk to students they wonder just how we know that they used Black's just once or twice and then set it aside never to look at it again.
We even verified usage by going to 6 different law schools in the Washington D,.C. area and surveyed students who had Black's or Dean's. We were able to average 20 students at each school (10 Black's and 10 Dean's). Only 2 of 60 students had their Black's (pocket editions; not even the full edition) with them while all 60 had Dean's. The average Black's student used it 7.4 times per SEMESTER and the average Dean's student used it 11.9 times per DAY!!! Our methodologies were not exactly scientific and we did bribe each student with some free pizza if they took the survey, but the results are clear.
